1.Individual scoring

Each film is reviewed independently by our panel. They will score entries based on key criteria specific to each award category. These criteria may include technical elements like cinematography and sound design, as well as creative aspects such as storytelling and emotional impact. Judges evaluate each film on a scale, ensuring a balanced assessment of both technical skill and artistic vision.

2. collaborative review

Once all films have been scored, the judges come together for a collaborative review process. This allows them to discuss standout films, compare notes, and ensure that each entry is given thorough consideration. The collaborative review ensures consistency across all categories and highlights the films that truly excel.

3. tabulation of scores

The scores from all judges are combined to determine the highest-ranking films. The top-scoring entries in each category will be named nominees, and from there, the category winner is chosen. In cases of very close scoring, judges may hold additional discussions to break ties and ensure the most deserving films are recognised.

SYSTEM.

OVERVIEW

Following submission of all entries, the judging panel are given 2 months to review and select both the nominees and the winners.

  • This is not a couples vote.

  • This is not a regional award and judging is not done on a location basis: where you are based in the UK, or the world, does not give you an advantage.

  • All films will be reviewed by the panel of judges, and judges are not assigned a specific award.

  • Specific eligibility criteria apply to all categories.

  • Judges reserve the right to reallocate a wedding film entry to a different category if they feel it is better suited, ensuring each film is judged in the most appropriate context.

STRUCTURE

Each judge scores films based on a standardised scale that reflects key aspects of wedding filmmaking. Scores are assigned to individual criteria within each category to provide a comprehensive evaluation of your film. For example:

  • Cinematography (e.g., composition, lighting, movement): Scored on technical execution and creativity.

  • Storytelling (e.g., narrative flow, emotional impact): Scored on how effectively the story engages the viewer.

  • Sound Design (e.g., audio clarity, music use, sound effects): Scored on the quality and integration of sound.

  • Innovation (e.g., creative vision, unique perspectives): Scored on how the film stands out within its category.

SCALE

The following scoring scale is used across the whole judging process. Each judge assigns a score for these elements, tailored to the category being judged:

  • 1-3 Good technical execution, some creativity.

  • 3-7 Strong technical skills with occasional moments of creativity.

  • 8-10 Outstanding creativity and technical precision, visually stunning throughout
